Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to our "digital glimpse" of our kura/school, Kaingaroa Forest School.
At our school we work hard to be the best that we can be. In the heart of the Kaingaroa Forest, once the largest man-planted forest in the Southern Hemisphere, you will find us, nestled at the end of Dun Road, getting on with learning - ako - to learn, to teach. It will be best to contact us ahead of time though because on any given day, we could be busy off-site, learning by doing, out in te ao, the world: Swimming lessons in Murupara or Rotorua; Careers Day in Rotorua; Attendance Day trips to one of the many fabulous local businesses; at our Marae or local playground "Te Pumanawa"; Competing in a local Te Urewera Cluster event; learning at Te Aka Mauri in Rotorua; at Lake Rerewhakaaitu doing our Hinemoa Water Safety; Visiting a museum to learn about art and history; out biking or doing local events like the Rotorua Mini Marathon, or getting epic in the Legends of the Peak race in Whakarewarewa Forest! "Ako" happens anywhere and everywhere!
We are small, we are pounamu, special, unique, precious! Our learners engage in authentic learning across the New Zealand Curriculum, through our KFS (Kaingaroa Forest School) Curriculum. Provisions are made with the support of our Board of Trustees, for low class numbers, specialised learning programmes and interventions and at our place "ako" is powerful, because it is purposeful! Literacy and Numeracy have priority, alongside te reo me te ao Maori. We aim for our learners to be skilled thinkers and doers, who have confidence in who they are and who know what they want to achieve - learners who set out in the world to "do it"!
We look forward to meeting you - just call ahead so you know where to find us!
KFS update: Kia ora. We hope everyone has had a good break ???? Our building project has been flat tack over the break. Still a way to go but it’s looking neat!
Frustratingly, we need to have a staff only day apopo to make spaces safe before ākonga/students return back. We should be ok for tamariki to return on Tuesday. We will do all we can for that ????????
Please continue to keep an eye on our place & monitor our special little kura outside of school hours ???? Thanks team
Reading is one of the most powerful ways to positively impact achievement and progress.
Save the attached Holiday Reading Log, screenshot it on a phone or tablet, or print it. Read together, independently, to whanau, to the pets, to the teddies & send it back to teachers at the end of the holiday break.
Stay safe & well. Enjoy making memories together.
Kia ora whanau o KFS
As we reflect on Matariki, move through to our Tau Hou Maori, we share our new innovation "Jump-ariki", tomorrow Wednesday 18 June 2025.
It has been a busy, challenging, and pouri time for us at KFS.
Apopo is a time for us to acknowledge the struggles and move through it together.
It is also a time for us to step into hauora again - Jumping June - celebration of hauora, wellbeing - learning through fun and fitness.
Please see the attached reminder.
Pohutukawa - wear purple to remember our loved ones passed; to reflect and generate our aspirations, goals & wishes mo Hiwa i te rangi.
Manawatia a Matariki
Parents, please support our local businesses
